Calico cat in shelter for nearly 11 years finds furever home

Feb 23, 2021 |

We have a very special “Happy Tail” for you this Tuesday! Jolie’s animal ID is 8739. That’s only four digits. Why is that important for us to point out? Well, because it indicates how long Jolie was in our care – 34 days shy of 11 YEARS, and that’s including THREE LEAP YEARS! Can you believe that’s how long some cats live in a shelter environment?! “I’m over the moon that Jolie was adopted,” Maritza,…

A ruff time for puppies with scabies

Feb 18, 2021 |

Affected by scabies, these cuties are having a ruff time! Every single one of them is experiencing severe itching, causing them to bite and scratch incessantly. It’s definitely a heartbreaking sight to see! Fortunately, our dog care team is providing the puppies with the appropriate treatment, which consists of weekly shots and lime dips! When doing the latter, our staff members have to endure the lime dip’s strong, unpleasant odor, but…

RIP Geronimo Johnson

Feb 11, 2021 |

Yesterday, our cat care supervisor, Maritza, did not hesitate to take in Geronimo Johnson, a cat who was malnourished, suffering from urine burns, and severely matted with feces. Geronimo had been rescued by local animal control agencies, and it was believed that Geronimo may have been confined to a cage for an unknown period of time. Maritza planned on having our medical care team sedate Geronimo at around 3 p.m. to remove Geronimo’s matted fur.…

Anjanette & Willard

Jan 11, 2021 |

My name is Anjanette and I am an animal care associate here at Valley Animal Center. While I do love dogs, I have been working with cats exclusively for about four years. If I could talk about cats all day, I absolutely would. However, I haven’t always been a cat person. I only ever really had one pet of my own growing up and that was a hamster, but I saw cats around the neighborhood.…

Lioness seeks furever home

Dec 14, 2020 |

When Nala first arrived at Valley Animal Center four years ago, she was named Venice. When she was adopted late spring of 2016, it’s possible her adopters looked at Venice’s adorable puppy rolls, soft, cream coat and glowing eyes and thought of the 1994 Disney animated feature film, The Lion King, and changed her name from Venice to Nala. We think it was a wonderful decision! Mid-January of this year, Nala’s adopters made the difficult…

Even when Thomas Flanigan walks into our facility with a mask on, we know he’s got the biggest smile on his face. Known to many as simply Tom, Tom was born and raised in Boston, Mass. 75 years ago. When he was 17 years old, Tom joined the navy and worked as a police officer for many, many years before joining the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office as an investigator. Today, Tom refers to himself…
