Two malnourished dogs rescued by Valley Animal Center

In September, an individual named Christopher Burress posted on TikTok a short video about two very malnourished senior dogs, Akira and Guero.

In an effort to help rescue the dogs, Christopher continued to share their story and reached out to us mid-October asking for help.

“I need help saving these two dogs,” Christopher wrote. “The owner said he is willing to surrender them, but I need an organization that can help.”

In an image Christopher shared with us, one of the dogs has a chain for a collar, and the two have very limited space for movement. Both dogs are Siberian Husky / Alaskan Malamute mix, which are breeds that benefit greatly from having plenty of room to play and exercise. Mounds of feces are also visible, and their coats are in desperate need of grooming. Their eyes, sad and desolate, seem to ask for immediate help.

It wasn’t very long before we made our way to Stockton to rescue both pups.

Today, Akira and Guero are in the process of recovering. They’ve gained some weight, have been bathed and groomed, and are well-loved by our animal care staff. Our hope is that they find homes together, but we have a long way to go before we even begin our search.

“The huskies are doing great,” our animal care adoption supervisor, Ruben Cantu, said. “Our focus is to help them gain weight and improve the condition of their skin, which can take months of medicated baths.”

Thanks to Christopher, more than $4,000 was raised for Akira and Guero. We thank Christopher for being a strong voice for both dogs. If you’d like to sponsor their recovery, please make a donation today and include “For Akira and Guero” in the memo.
