Hairless Chispita Rescued

Chispita with Animal Care Specialist, Jessica Silva

Meet Chispita, roughly 6 months old, female Chihuahua.

Chispita suffered from Demodectic Mange. When we rescued her, her chest and belly were practically furless. Luckily, after her baths and treatments, she is now in recovery and we predict her fur will regrow in time!

Animal Care Operations Supervisor Maritza Lopez first spotted Chispita’s call-for-rescue post from Fresno Humane on June 23rd, Thursday morning. The post had been up for an hour and had gained little interest from other rescue groups. After communicating with Animal Care Adoption Supervisor Ruben Cantu, Maritza made the decision to pull Chispita for rescue.

“She was just so small and looked like she needed help,” said Maritza. “‘Crusty’ dogs never scare us!”

After rearranging some space, Chispita arrived at our facility Thursday afternoon. She continues to receive medications and medicated baths for her skin.

“She’s a super sweet and lovable girl,” said Animal Care Specialist Jessica Silva. “We’re seeing that she does good with other dogs and she is on her way to being a healthy dog!”

Chispita is not available for adoption yet as we are still monitoring her skin condition, and she still needs to be spayed as well.

As a private no-kill shelter, giving rescue cases like Chispita a second chance to find her furever home is what we are grateful we can do. The support of our community enables us to help animals like Chispita, who may otherwise receive a different ending had she not been rescued.

We hope you continue to follow us in our mission to rescue more homeless dogs and cats in need and unite them with loving people!

Valley Animal Center is dedicated to serving animal companions in the Central Valley and beyond. Our mission is to unite dogs and cats with loving people. We believe every animal deserves a loving family and furever home. Donate to support our endless mission as we care for the hundreds of homeless dogs and cats.

We live in Victoria BC. I understand that Chispita is not ready for adoption just yet, but I would like to know….when she is ready, would you be willing to adopt her to Canadian ??
We have Chihuahua’s. 1 rescue…Jumper…from Fresno 10 yrs ago, 1 rescue…Lolly…from Puerto Vallarta 3 yrs ago and our 15 yr old Chi….Pepper….rescued from being put down 10 yrs ago. Chispita will fit in perfectly. She will want for nothing…
We were fosters for many years. Many foster failings as well. Jumper and Pepper are both failures 🥰🥰🥰
I purposely flew to PV to get Lolly.
Please advise what we need to do to adopt this little darling. She is tiny like Jumper. When he came in to rescue, he was 1.5 lbs. He is now 3.5 lbs. Thank you.
