Spray-painted and Abused

A good Samaritan was driving when she noticed two teenagers spray painting and throwing rocks at a small dog left in a crate in an alley. She got out of the car immediately and the teenagers fled. In the crate was Bruce, a two-year-old Chihuahua. 

Bruce was given a bath and taken care of by the good Samaritan. However, Bruce was scared of and didn’t get along with the big dogs in the home. So, the good Samaritan sought our help and brought Bruce to us.

Our dog care specialist, Jessica, has been giving Bruce a bath every other day with Vaseline to help remove the spray paint. The biggest struggle has been his face, as the spray paint was on his eyes and nose. We worried if Bruce had inhaled too much of the spray paint fumes but so far, his health appears to be in good condition.

When we heard about Bruce’s backstory, we were both angered and saddened. We think about the confusion Bruce must have felt being left in an alley and then the fear he must have experienced when he wasn’t even able to run away from those who were abusing him. According to The Humane Society, dogs are one of the most common victims of animal cruelty. Thankfully, Bruce is now safe in our care.

“Bruce is the sweetest dog,” said Jessica. “He loves to be around other dogs his size.”

“For what he’s been through,” said our dog care associate, Julianne, “ he acts like he’s still the happiest guy in the world.”

At the moment, Bruce is not available for adoption. Once he is, however, we will be seeking a calmer home for him that can love him in the way he deserves to be loved.
