DOG PARK


The Dr. James W. Thornton Dog Park is a membership-based 1.5 acre park that is a part of the Valley Animal Center, the Central Valley’s premier no-kill shelter for dogs and cats and low-cost spay, neuter, and vaccination clinic. The park features a 2,000 gallon canine wading pool complete with water jets, an agility course play area, and grassy land with trees divided into several spacious dog runs based on canine size.

Separate dog runs for canines under 25 pounds and over 26 pounds

A canine agility course with a variety of obstacles

2,000 gallon canine wading pool with water jets (for dogs only)

Toys of all varieties included in each run

Lockers provided for your personal items (Lock not included)

Doggie bag dispensers throughout the park

Several water stations that are filled with fresh water daily

Bathrooms, drinking fountains, and a beverage machine.

Membership

All potential canine members must be at least 6 months of age, spayed or neutered, up-to-date on their vaccinations, and temperament-tested before being admitted into the dog park.

New members need:

Vaccination Records

You need to provide proof that your dog(s) are current on the following vaccinations: leptospirosis, bordetella, rabies, and DA2PPv (or an equivalent – see the membership packet for accepted vaccines).

Proof of spay or neuter

Verification can be through spay or neuter certificate, paperwork from a veterinarian, boarding facility, etc. that states they are spayed or neutered, or visual inspection. Visual inspection of males does not require a tattoo. For females, a visible tattoo or spay scar is required for visual inspection.
