FAQ'S About the Changes

Our current business model is not sustainable long-term. These changes are not about closing our shelters. They are about reimagining how we operate so we can grow, strengthen, and rescue more animals each year. 

By moving toward a more sustainable model that does not rely solely on donations, we can ensure the future of our shelters and continue making a greater impact.

No. We are a private nonprofit organization. We do not receive government funding. All of our programs are supported by donations, grants, and the services we provide. Your continued support is essential to our ability to operate.

Starting October 1, 2025, we are slowing down our intake to the right size, we are adjusting to fit our business model. This pause allows us to focus our resources on animals currently in our care.

Yes. We are still facilitating adoptions, but our hours are changing:

• Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

   

• Wednesday through Friday: Open by appointment only

   

• Saturday and Sunday: Open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

   

We encourage adopters to book an appointment a week in advance or visit during open weekend hours. You can view our current adoptables on our website and complete an online adoption form to get started.

• We no longer accept walk-in surrenders
• All surrender requests must be submitted by email to:
  • dogs@valleyanimal.org for dogs
  • cats@valleyanimal.org for cats
    
• Please include the following information in your email: pet’s name, age, species (dog or cat), number of pets being surrendered, photos of the pet(s), reason for surrender, your name, and a contact number.

If the surrender is approved, a fee of $1,000 or more may be required to help cover the cost of food, medical care, and staffing.

Providing long-term care for a surrendered pet is expensive. The fee helps cover the costs of food, medical care, housing, and staffing during the animal’s stay at our facility.

Every action helps us care for the animals.

Our shelter is currently undergoing an evaluation to ensure long-term sustainability. We are actively exploring new ways to reimagine and strengthen our shelter model so we can continue serving animals in need.

These changes affect only our shelter operation and all other VAC departments continue to operate as usual.

Yes. The following services will remain open during their normal operating hours:

• Pet Grooming

• Clinic

• Membership-Based Dog Park

We encourage the community to continue using these services, as they directly help fund our shelter operations.

Yes. We are still accepting volunteers. Your time and support are more valuable than ever.

Volunteer Hours:

• Monday & Tuesday: Closed
• Wednesday through Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
