Calling on all students and teachers - did you know the Valley Animal Center offers FREE educational classroom
presentations and field trips?
The Valley Animal Center's mission is to reduce the local pet over population problem by spaying and neutering animals and
educating the public about the crisis, and how to care for animals. These lessons can be learned at any age, and tie right in
with Character Counts™, educational standards, and other curriculum.
Pets put the pillars of character into place!
Animals need care, too! Our youngest learners will be educated on how to care for an animal by providing it with food, water and love.
Older students will learn about how Veterinarians and other individuals with careers in animal fields care for animals professionally, and how they prepared for their careers.
Respect animals by learning how to treat them ethically. Our youngest learners will be educated on respecting an unfamiliar animal, and when you can safely approach them. Older students will learn about the ethical treatment of animals, and why they need our respect, too.
Having a pet is a big responsibility! Our youngest learners will be educated on the 5 Steps to Being a Responsible Pet Owner, while older students will learn about spaying and neutering, and why it is so important to be a responsible pet owner in this Valley. (Download the “Spay and Neuter Math Facts” worksheet for a sample of the activities we can provide!)
Students of any age can learn how to be a good citizen by helping their community! Our youngest learners will be educated on what animal shelters do to help animals in the community, and how they can help, too. Older students will have the option of learning about volunteerism in preparation for their future careers, and can even have their own Volunteer Orientation Meeting for groups of 20 or more students ages 12 or older. Just like our regular Volunteer Orientation, students will be taught the expectations for volunteers, and what jobs are available for them here in our facility.
Field trips and educational presentations at your school site are available on these topics and more. For more information, contact
the Valley Animal Center's Administrative Office Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm at (559) 233-8690. You may also email info@valleyanimal.org
Field trips and presentations are free of charge, and made possible by support from the local community. To help support our shelter animals, interested classrooms are encouraged to collect supplies from our shelter’s Wish List.
